No time like the present

If you are reading this, then you have made that all-important first step toward career change. With all the different decisions to be made, it can be quite scary, or exciting depending on your viewpoint! With such a flood of information out there it is important to get organized. It is easy to get bogged down in detail at this stage rather than considering the broader picture of what your new career is going to be.

You also need to think about how you are going to get that all-important career training. We all have doubts occasionally, but it may encourage you to know that you are three times less likely to be unemployed if you hold a professional degree than if you were just a high school graduate.

What about hard currency? On average you could earn two and three quarter times what your less well-educated high school colleagues earn. (Occupational Outlook Quarterly) With the help of the Internet career training is now more easily available and affordable than ever before; so don't get left behind!

Considerations for a new career opportunity

Location: Are you willing or able to relocate? You may find that training is location specific or that your preferred career opportunity is in a different state.

Cost: Work out what you can afford to pay for tuition, and how much you'll need to support yourself during this time. You may have to pay to relocate or commute. Maybe staying in work and studying part time might be a better financial option.

Scheduling: Can you attend all the classes? Taking time off and studying an intensive program may be worth it.

Benefits: What is the job market like for graduates of this career training? Ask the college or search for employment figures.
