Making a decision to study for a degree or other higher education qualification is not a simple process. You will need to decide what you want to do, and how you want to do it. Perhaps the first step to this process is charting your course, determining what your goals are, and then discovering what options are available. You will also need to know how long it will take to obtain your desired education and what it will cost you.
Sitting down with a paper and pencil and writing out your goals for a higher education can be very productive. It allows you to establish the parameters of your career choices and determine the kind of degree programs you are interested in. Then you can start looking at the relevant degree programs that are offered and the courses you will need to take.
Evaluation
You need to evaluate the various degree programs, recording each program and its features, and then grading them according to your preferences. You'll end up with a short list of degree programs that are suitable for you, along with the cost of study.
Once you have your short list down to three or four alternatives, take a look at the university or college that offers each degree program. You are going to spend some years interacting with this institution, so you need to know what their philosophy is, and whether you are going to feel comfortable dealing with it.
Studying for a degree is a very personal experience, but can be remarkably rewarding, not just financially and in career terms, but personally and socially as well. Education allows you to meet different people and absorb new concepts, not just in the classroom but also within the institution as a whole.
