Applying for College

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Are you stressed going through your experience of applying for college? We know you have endless questions as you search for the right college. Which schools have the right programs? How much is the tuition? Is there any financial aid available? Why choose one college over another one? Do I have to move to a different state, and which one? If you are stuck, we have some good advice.

1. Make a list of the schools that look good to you.
2. Make sure you request information directly from the schools. Schools offer FREE BROCHURES, as well as advice from school representatives who do know what you are trying to figure out.
3. Ask all the questions you have about programs offered, school accreditation, financial aid, steps to take, dorm life, transportation, etc., etc.
4. Right down the information and make an informed and smart decision. It might be the most important one you make for your future!

Good luck

Benefits of a career in architecture

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Looking for a career with both economic benefits and social benefits? Then you should consider an architectural career.

Architects design houses, apartment buildings, offices, hospitals, universities, and every other type of structure you can imagine. They have the opportunity to create concepts for buildings and see those through to completion.

One of the economic benefits is the salary. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the middle 50% of architects can earn between $46,690 and $79,230, and some at the higher end can earn more than $99,800.

As for the social benefits, architects enjoy comfortable working conditions–and there are so many different types of companies that you can easily find one to suit your needs, from small 5-person firms to huge corporations. About 1 in 4 architects are even self-employed, far more than in other most other professions.

This job also allows for plenty of interaction with others, since most of an architect’s time is spent consulting with clients, working with engineers, or visiting construction sites to review the progress of their projects.
