What is Information Technology?

Information technology is a general term used to describe technologies that help produce, manipulate, store, communicate, or disseminate information. Also often called ICT (Information and Communications Technology) and C and IT (Communication and Information Technologies). The broad subject concerned with all aspects of managing and processing information, on databases or in libraries, especially within large organizations.

Information Technology Includes all matters concerned with the furtherance of computer science and technology and with the design, development, installation, and implementation of information systems and applications. With an Information Technology Degree you will be working with computers, ancillary equipment, software, firmware and similar procedures, services (including support services), and related resources.

An Information Technology Degree will make you a programmer or technician. You will be involved with Computer hardware and software; voice, data, network, satellite and other telecommunications technologies; and multimedia and application development tools. These technologies are used for the input, storage, processing, and communication of information.

If you enjoy these various forms of technology used to create, store, exchange, and use information in its various forms (business data, voice conversations, still images, motion pictures, multimedia presentations, etc, you might want to get into the Information Technology field and earn an IT Degree.
